For Public Agencies: Credentials, Insurance, and Data Handling

What purchasing, risk, and IT teams need to approve FlyCRE as a drone documentation vendor, in one place.

Orthomosaic aerial capture of a hillside property in Southern California

City staff, fire agencies, water districts, and special districts usually need the same answers before a first flight: who flies, how it is insured, what happens to the data, and what aircraft are used. This page answers those questions in one place, so your purchasing, risk, and IT reviews can move at the same time.

Additional insured requests

If your agency must be named as an additional insured, tell us during scoping. We request the endorsement through our insurance broker, and every request is subject to the insurance company's approval. A certificate on its own does not make an agency an additional insured; the policy must carry the endorsement. We send the endorsement and an updated certificate once they are issued, before the first flight.

If your contract asks for limits above those listed, send us the insurance requirements early so we can confirm what can be arranged.

Aircraft and airspace

  • Registration and Remote ID. Every aircraft is registered with the FAA and flown in compliance with the FAA's Remote ID rule.
  • Airspace. Flights follow 14 CFR Part 107. Where controlled airspace requires it, we obtain FAA authorization before the flight.
  • Insured by serial number. Each aircraft we fly is listed on our unmanned aircraft endorsement by serial number.
  • FCC status. Our aircraft are FCC-authorized models already in service. The FCC has stated that its December 2025 Covered List action does not affect drones that were already purchased (Mayer Brown summary). We disclose make and model during procurement, so your team can check them against any equipment policy your agency follows. See our FCC drone rules explainer.

Data handling

Every flight captures RGB, thermal, and multispectral imagery. We process the captures and load them into FlyCRE Intelligence, where each record keeps its capture date and location. Records are then released to your agency only.

  • Encrypted. TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest.
  • Isolated. Default-deny row-level security separates each client's records at the database.
  • Private. Imagery is never publicly addressable. Files are reached through short-lived links issued after authorization.
  • Owned by the client. The agency that orders the flights owns the data and decides who has access. FlyCRE does not publish or share client data.
  • Logged. An audit trail covers instrumented operations.

Read the Security and Privacy Controls page, or request the full security brief for your IT review. Records your agency holds may be subject to the California Public Records Act; your agency manages its own records and retention.

Privacy

We fly only the property your agency owns, manages, or is authorized to document. We do not capture data of private residences, and flights are planned to limit disturbance to residents and operations.

What FlyCRE does not do

We document conditions. We do not inspect, issue citations, make defensible space or fuel modification compliance determinations, or replace your fire prevention staff. Your inspectors and qualified professionals interpret the record. See inspection or documentation?

Plans and one-time captures

Most agencies use an annual plan with flights every two weeks, monthly, or quarterly, with all sensors on every flight. If you need a single capture first, a one-time capture is quoted on request.

Common questions

Can you name our agency as an additional insured?

We request the endorsement through our broker, subject to the insurance company's approval, and send it with an updated certificate before the first flight.

Are your drones affected by the FCC Covered List?

The FCC has said its Covered List action does not affect drones already purchased. Our aircraft are FCC-authorized models already in service, and we disclose make and model during procurement.

Who owns the imagery?

Your agency. Records are released only to your agency, and FlyCRE does not publish or share client data.

Do you make compliance determinations?

No. FlyCRE provides a dated aerial record. Your staff and qualified professionals make every determination.

What do you need to start?
