Brush clearance
is year round.

LA County Fire inspects defensible space every year and treats compliance as a year-round responsibility. FlyCRE documents the zones associations and owners hold, before and after the work.

Fuel modification zones
Approved plan notes set a 5-foot ember resistant zone next to the structure, Zone 1 at 30 feet, Zone 2 out to 100 feet, and Zone 3 out to 200 feet where an on-site inspection requires it.
Annual clearance
The 2026 notice calls for removing listed combustible species within 30 feet of structures, or 50 feet in extra hazard areas, thinning out to 100 feet, and keeping grasses at 3 inches or less.
Inspection calendar
Inspections start April 1 in desert areas, May 1 inland, and June 1 on the coast. The notice lists a $500 fine when clearance is not complete 30 days after the inspection report.
